Afghans are currently among those receiving the least amount of humanitarian aid globally, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). The Central Sahel region of Africa is particularly concerning, according to the NGO’s most recent report.

Humanitarian funding for people in Afghanistan has decreased to its lowest level, according to the latest report by NRC.

The NGO stated in a statement that the United States of America’s suspension of humanitarian aid is the primary cause of this drop in aid.

The previous administration, Afghanistan, Afghanistan, Afghanistan, Afghanistan. Since the return of President Donald Trump to the White House, however, that support has shrunk significantly.

Afghanistan is now listed as one of the world’s most neglected crises for the first time, according to NRC Secretary General Jan Egeland, because the situation has gotten so bad.

He went on to say that many Afghans are currently without access to basic services, emphasising that millions of people could be forced into extreme poverty and hunger if donor nations do not act quickly.

Only 16% of the declared target of 1.71 billion US dollars in humanitarian aid for 2026 has been obtained, according to UN figures.

The nearly 22 million people who live in Afghanistan are still heavily reliant on humanitarian aid due to a number of natural disasters brought on by climate change and an increasing decline into financial ruin under Taliban rule.

Prior to the violent return to power of the country’s Islamist leaders five years ago, Afghans had witnessed years of relative fiscal stability during the 20 years of Western military presence in the country.

With millions of Afghans also forced to return to their homeland from neighboring countries, the number of people projected to need humanitarian assistance is expected to rise.

Only 11 percent of adults who have returned to Afghanistan from places like Iran, Pakistan and Turkey are fully employed, according to NRC information.
