In the midst of his government being in crisis, Olaf Scholz received the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. In a shocking agreement reached today, Somalia consented to repatriate Somali migrants from the European nation.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud made a major commitment during his meeting with German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz today. The head of the African state proclaimed, “I will return all Somalian refugees who do not have a residency permit with you in Germany or who have not assimilated here.”
Today, there are over 60,000 Somalis in Germany, the great majority of whom are asylum seekers. Only this year 5800 Somalis have already submitted asylum applications, German outlet BILD highlights.

In an interview with BILD prior to his visit to the Chancellor, Sheikh Mohamud stated, “Our country has become safer, we are no longer just a country in civil war.” Indeed, they continue to fight the terrorist groups IS and al-Shabaab, but the president claims that “we have pushed them back.” “The perception of our nation overseas has been influenced by terrorist attacks and the pictures of our fishermen who turned into pirates. However, that is now behind us.”

During that time German warships patrolled the coast for 14 years to protect merchant ships in Mohamud’s country, which has been otherwise regarded as a hunger zone, a terror zone, and a pirate nest in the Horn of Africa.

Mohamud made it clear that he hopes to draw in investors, particularly from Germany. We secure investments and are safe. He emphasized, “We need investment and trust, not just development funds.” Agriculture, fishing, and a wide variety of mineral resources are all abundant in Somalia.

Sheikh Mohamud emphasized the withdrawal of peacekeepers initially sent by the African Union, adding to the recent milestones Somalia has achieved.

“We are now in control of ourselves. We have regained control. “One citizen, one vote” is replacing the clan system as the new electoral system.

“We have to become a home for our citizens again,” he said. For people who reside in Germany as well. They all call Somalia home. They can all return there without any issues.

The federal government’s decision to work with German authorities on the deportation of Somali refugees was criticized by former Somalia Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, who called it “irresponsibility” and expressed concerns about the consequences for displaced people looking for safety and assistance.
